HMRC still failing taxpayers, say MPs

There has been more in the news recently about the failures of HMRC in terms of its customer service.

There have been claims that half of calls are going unanswered and prosecutions not executed for offshore tax evasion – being tipped as ‘woefully inadequate’ by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). The poor level of service is also believed to be hindering tax collection.

HMRC has responded, stating that 3,000 more staff are being recruited to address the issues of long waiting times to get through on the phone and negate people not being able to get through at all.
